Buran Ghati Trek
Posted on: June 20, 2025
- after my easier himalayan trip, i was lured into this by a friend of mine when i mentioned that we want something physically challenging
- indiahikes was convenient. dedicated campsites with rotating groups means no carrying and pitching your own tent
- easy way to find a group and ensure safety and remove any panic
Day 1: Stay at Janglik
- altitude: 2804m
- get the first glimpses of pabbar river, our only water source till the summit
- drive from rohru to janglik
- meet up with the team, group leaders at janglik
- one last wet toilet luxury
- safety checks
- easy exploratory walk to nearby nepalese architecture temples and school. so many children be really less enrollment
- sneak peek into the trash
- our guides and many of the guides on the buran ghati trek are from janglik
- last day of cell phone reception
Day 2: To Dayara
- final walk without any shoes on
- day escapes into the river to chill and wash our feet
- crazy view from campsite
- evening climb onto nearby hill
- sheep taking over
- frisbee in the evening
- moonrise
- waking up at night to stargaze and see the milky way
- milky way capturning process
Day 3: To Litham
- the walk to to litham is pretty much flat
- it was a sight to see the morning sun slowly come over the dayara meadows
- walk closer to the gunas pass (visible throughout the trek)
- north of the site had the chanddranah waterfalls beyond which lied the chandranahan lakes
- visible from beside the waterfalls were the stacked sets of stones
- major stream of water flowed from there to merge into the pabbar river
Day 4: Chandranahan
- acclaimatization day and preperation for dhunda and summit walk
- made it to lake 4.
- could have gone futher but the guides recommended against it Day 5: Dhunda Day 6: Summit and River campsite
- this was the day for which the entire buildup happened
- the summit was 500m above and a 3kms away
- and i woke up with a bad throat throat which I knew was going to turn into a fever soon (i know my body best)
- i had limited time to finish the summit and i could deal with the worse part later
- the summit time is so early because the weather is the most predictable early morning
- afternoon onwards the entire place gets covered in dense fog or dhund. hence the name of the place: dhunda.
- wake up at 2am with after minimal amount of sleep and rest
- summit climb begins at 3am Day 7: Walk to Barua
